Erode City Corporation has projected a surplus of Rs. 49.46 lakh in the 2015-16 Budget.

Against overall revenue of Rs. 203.29 crore, expenditure of Rs. 202.80 crore has been projected.

Accruals from property tax, professional tax, rent from civic body's property, lease income, levy of payments at vehicle stands and pay and use toilets have been accounted for in the overall revenue estimation.

No new tax has been proposed in the interests of all sections of city residents. Schemes have been devised for implementation with State Government funding, said Mayor Malliga Paramasivam presenting the Budget on Monday.

This year, the corporation would garner property tax of Rs. 19.34 crore, the Mayor said.

Announcing the start of Amma Language Lab in corporation schools, she said all students in the institutions would be provided with neck ties. Students in Standards X to Plus-Two in corporation schools will be given wrist watches free of cost.

Students in corporation schools will be taught Karate for self defence.

Four schools have been identified for establishment of Smart Class Rooms at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh each. Of the 63 corporation schools, 20 schools have been identified for construction of additional classrooms and provision of other facilities at a cost of Rs. 3.29 crore.

The Mayor informed that the 10 Amma Unavagams in the city were catering to 6,000 people every day. To ease traffic congestion in the city limits, the Corporation has sought funds from the Government for laying an 80-feet road from Brough Road to Chennimalai Road.

Implementation of the project will start shortly, the Mayor said.
