TNCC president B.S. Gnanadesikan on Tuesday said it would be wrong to conclude that the Supreme Court found the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts innocent just because it commuted their death sentences to life term.
In a statement here he said they had been given the relief only because of the delay in disposal of their mercy petitions, not because they were seen as innocent. “But some political parties in Tamil Nadu seek to create an impression to that effect. These political parties must stop their campaign,” he added.
Mr. Gnanadesikan said if those who campaigned for commuting the death sentence shed tears for Rajiv Gandhi, police officials and others who were killed along with him, “we could rest in peace that they actually fought for compassion.”
