Dismayed by reports about the Union government's decision not to support the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday once again wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reiterating her demand that India go with the resolution and condemn the island nation. In a letter to Dr. Singh, she referred to certain media reports about India's stand on the resolution on accountability issues of the Sri Lankan civil war involving human rights violations to be moved for voting at the ongoing session of the UNHRC in Geneva.
‘Universal Periodic Review'
She said the reports stated that India was against “country-specific” resolutions and wanted to take up discussions on the island nation only under the ‘Universal Periodic Review' as a routine matter.
“This means direct support to the Sri Lankan government, which is most unfortunate and untenable.”
“I, therefore, reiterate my earlier requests and insist that India should support the United States-backed resolution in the UNHRC and strongly condemn the Sri Lankan government. I await a positive response from you.” She recalled that she had written to the Prime Minister earlier on the issue. She had also drawn his attention to a resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly last year urging that India take up the issue of ‘war crimes' with the UN and declare those found guilty of crimes against Sri Lankan Tamils as war criminals and to initiate action for an economic embargo on the country.

Rana, you are patriotic when it serves you well, but when your clan or race or linguistic minority is affected, you'll root for them, never mind the country. Then why are you pointing to the Tamil people and Jayalalitha? Is there anything like patriotism or is it just you showing off what you perceive is your jingoistic superiority over the Tamil people? Tamils are entitled to their interests, ethnic or otherwise, and if India cannot uphold their basic dignity, they will be Tamils first.
Regardless of what the US might have done, the perpetrators of this
atrocious violence against the Tamils need to be brought to heel. If
this were the solution, the ULFA and the Naxals wouldn't stand a chance
in India.
CM Jayalalithaa is correct again - this is happening each time she
makes a decision. CM Jayalalithaa has the intelligence, courage,
capacity and conviction to be Prime Minister of India and Tamilians
should support her candidacy as part of a third front in 2014. The
Sri Lankan Tamils were systematically targeted by war criminal
Rajapakse and the UN Human Rights Commissioner has stated that war crimes were committed by Rajapakse and his relative-filled government. The current Indian administration is not fully supporting the rights of Tamils due to the LTTE having assassinated former PM Rajiv Gandhi. The majority of Sri Lankan Tamils were not and are not LTTE sympathizers. So we need to wait until 2014 for there to be justice for Sri Lankans by PM Jayalalithaa.
TN politicians need to understand that India's interests are served by opposing this resolution. If Jayalalithaa puts her ethnic interests above those of the Indian nation, I would question her loyalty to the nation. So, to be blunt, don't be a traitor.
Secondly, I endorse the above comment. What right do the US/UK and the rest - the biggest mass murderers and torturers in the history of this planet (and criminals good at stealing what is rightfully not theirs) - have to talk about Human Rights? These Anglo-Saxon thugs need to mind their own business and go about their killings the efficient way only they know how to do.
India's stand on the Human Rights abuses issue clearly indicate that the current Congress regime under Italian Sonia Maino and Manmohan Singh is no longer Gandhian and behaving like a Mussolini regime in the 21st Century!
Indians have voted cleverly in the recent state elections and dumped the Congress candidates.
Lets not forget the fact that Muslims killed in Sri Lanka during the civil war were in the hands of LTTE and not Sri Lankan Army. Why cant a resolution be moved in UNHRC against Tamils as well and those rogue leaders in Tamil Nadu who support LTTE and their brethren. Jaya is just diverting the people's attention from the crisis of power and inept governance.
I hope the Tamil people all over the world understand and realise that before raising a hue and cry, come clear on the 'genocide' you did on Muslims in Sri Lanka. Why the sympathy is always just on Tamils. Is it being they are not Muslims? Face the real facts before blaming the Sri Lankan Government.
Silence when we are expected to speak, is more harmful than other forms of inaction.
What I cant understand is how the US who has bombed iraq and
responsible for the deaths of over 1 million iraqis, over 1million in
vietnam, over 33,000 civilians in afghanistan, over 25,000 in libya,
who dropped over 50,000 bombs over libya can stand up at the UNHRC and
even talk about human rights and why other countries allow it to do
so. Why is it that these criminal countries such as the US allowed to
dominate and bully other countries and bow down to their doctrines? is
it because the other countries have no sense of self worth and that
they accept this browbeating and bullying on a regular basis?
Why are these criminal countries such as the US and NATO who have
committed gross violations of human rights even allowed anywhere near
the UNHRC? It is as if the world is being governed by a bunch of
thugs. It is the responsibility of all right thinking countries to
tell these criminals such as the US and NATO to exit the UNHRC and
stay away even from the UN until they reform.
