Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko has appealed to the electorate to strengthen the party by supporting its candidates in the forthcoming civic polls to serve them in a better fashion.
Campaigning in the western parts of the district on Wednesday, Mr. Vaiko said the MDMK, which was humiliated by its then ally AIADMK, did not contest the Assembly polls. Against this backdrop, the party fielded its candidates for the local body elections as the MDMK, enjoying the support of the electorate at the grassroots level, wanted to serve them by fulfilling their basic needs through strengthening infrastructure facilities.
He said the party, though not in power, was waging battle against any schemes and multi-crore projects that were affecting the livelihood of the public, especially the farmers and the fishermen.
He condemned the recent firing at Paramakkudi.
