Around 150 healthcare workers, including nurses and paramedical staff from government hospitals, will undergo counselling on Monday for recruitment to the super-specialty hospital that is coming up on Omandurar Estate.
It is learnt that the State government has created 262 posts for nurses and paramedical staff, of which 16 are on consolidated pay while the rest will be recruited as regular staff. The paramedical staff includes technicians, pharmacists and physiotherapists. The counselling will be held at the office of the Directorate of Medical Education. An order to this effect was issued by the government last Thursday.
Nurses on contract said they are happy with the development as this would result in regularisation of at least a few of them. “Earlier, we learnt that the government had planned to call for applications for nurses on contract basis. There are at present 300 vacancies for nurses in government hospitals. We hope that the process of counselling will be taken up for these vacancies soon,” said Ravi Seetharaman, vice-president of Tamil Nadu Government Contract Nurses Welfare Association.
The Medical Recruitment Board has also called for applications for the post of senior and junior consultants, duty doctors and registrars for the hospital. Health department sources said that senior consultants with around 10-15 years’ experience may be paid around Rs. 1.5 lakh, whereas a duty doctor could earn Rs. 50,000 a month. The government is yet to advertise for the post of hospital administrator, who is expected to be a non-medical person.
