Sun TV official held on extortion charges

Based on a complaint lodged by film producer Nemichand Jebak

The Kodambakkam police on Monday arrested Hansraj Saxena, Chief Operating Officer of Sun TV, on charges of cheating, extortion and criminal intimidation.

According to police sources, Nemichand Jebak a film producer of Kodambakkam lodged a complaint with the police that he was the producer of the Tamil film, ‘Mapillai,' starring Dhanush in the lead role.

He said Sun Pictures released the movie after making a payment.

After the release, Saxena called him saying that the movie did not fetch the desired revenue and demanded Rs. 4 crore of the payment made for the film be returned.

Jebak alleged that he was confined to a room in a hotel and relieved of Rs.3.37 crore.

Based on the complaint, the Kodambakkam police registered a case under Section 420 (cheating), 386 (extortion by putting any person in fear of death) and 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of IPC, the sources said.

“We have formally arrested Saxena in the Puzhal central prison where he is lodged in connection with two other cases,” a police official said.
