Summons to Vijayakant, wife

The Principal District and Sessions Court here on Monday issued summons to Desiya Murpokku Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Vijayakant, his wife Premalatha and three other party men to appear before the court on July 2 in a defamation case.

The summons was issued based on a petition filed by Public Prosecutor for Tirupur District K.N. Subramaniam. The petitioner stated that Vijayakant and his wife had made defamatory comments against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at a public meeting organised by the DMDK in the city on May 12.

The other persons against whom the summons issued include Keerthi Subramanian, Raveendran and A.R. Elangovan.
