Summons to Karunanidhi, Vijayakant and Elangovan in defamation cases

Chennai A local court on Thursday ordered issue of summons to DMK chief M Karunanidhi, DMDK founder Vijayakant and senior Congress leader E V K S Elangovan to appear before it on different days in April in connection with a defamation complaints filed by the Tamil Nadu government.

Principal Sessions Judge directed the DMK chief to appear before him on April 29, Vijayakanth on April 26 and Elangovan on April 25, in connection with the cases against them.

A defamation case was filed by Minister Natham Viswanathan against Mr. Karunanidhi for his statement, published in DMK mouthpiece Murasoli on August 23 2012.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had filed a case against Mr. Vijayakant for an interview he gave to a TV channel he owns.

The case against Mr. Elangovan was for his interview in another TV channel in November last.
