Summons to Karunanidhi in defamation case

The Principal Sessions Court on Friday ordered the issuance of summons to DMK president M.Karunanidhi and S.Selvam, printer, publisher and editor of Murasoli, Tamil daily to appear before it in a defamation case.

Last month, the State government filed the defamation complaint against them for having published article defaming the Minister for Finance O.Panneerselvam in its edition dated August 23.

Taking the complaint on file, the Principal Sessions Judge P.Kalaiyarasan ordered the issue of summons to them to appear before the court on December 18. He also directed the printer, publisher, editor and reporter of ‘Ananda Vikatan’, Tamil weekly, to appear on that day in connection with another defamation case filed against them for having published an article in August 22.

Meanwhile, the government on Friday filed a defamation complaint against Mr. Karunanidhi and Mr.Selvam for having published an article in its edition dated August 23 with an intention to defame Labour Minister S.T.Chellapandian. The case was filed against the printer, publisher, editor and reporter of ‘Ananda Vikatan’, Tamil weekly.
