The need for removing the disconnect between younger generation and Tamil language-culture was stressed at a meeting held on Monday by the Publicity Committee of the World Classical Tamil Conference with representatives of the media.
Expressing concern over the youth's lack of interest in Tamil culture and literature, the participants gave suggestions to make Tamil appealing and relevant to the youth through the use of latest technology.
Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, Information Minister and chairperson of the committee, said the conference would be used as an opportunity to address the issue.
Among the ideas floated at the meeting were the preparation of a publication, in Tamil and English, on the history of Tamil, production of five to six films on the greatness of Tamil and the use of the mobile sector to popularise the meet.
N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu , Peter Alphonse, Congress Whip in the Assembly, G. Muthusamy, Secretary of the Tamil Development - Religious Endowment and Information Departments, C. Kamaraj, Director of Information and Public Relations, and R.R. Gopal, ‘Nakkeeran' editor, were among those who participated in the meeting.
