Wants the government to increase the price of paddy per quintal to Rs. 2000

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Monday accused the State government of ignoring the demand of farmers and unilaterally fixing the State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane.

In a statement here, he also wanted the government to increase the price of paddy per quintal.to Rs 2,000

Recalling the resolution adopted at the DMK general council meeting that the minimum price for sugarcane should be Rs. 3,500 per quintal, Mr. Karunanidhi said the Tamil Nadu people would teach a fitting lesson to the ruling party in the Lok Sabha polls for reducing the price of sugarcane.

CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan said sugarcane farmers were disappointed over the price of Rs. 2,650 per quintal even though the Centre had increased the price by Rs 400. He said as of now the total price in Tamil Nadu was Rs. 2,350 (including Rs. 1,700 fixed by the Centre and the State Advisory Price Rs. 650). The price this year should have been increased to Rs. 2,750 after the Centre further increased the price by Rs. 400. “But the State had fixed the price at only Rs. 2,650,” he said.
