Students take out rally

Around 500 students participated in a rally demanding a ban on illicit liquor on Tuesday.

The rally that commenced at the Vellore taluk office went through Arni Road, Anna Salai and ended near Gandhi Statue. It was organised by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing and Police department.

Students put forward the health hazards caused by consuming arrack during the rally. The rally was part of awareness initiatives taken to make the district free from illicit liquor.

Collector R. Nanthagopal, Superintendent of Police, Vellore P.K. Senthilkumari, Additional SP Ashok Kumar and Vellore Corporation Mayor P. Karthiyayini were present, a press release said.
