Students resent divisions in the name of caste

April 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - TUTICORIN:

Students of Nazareth Margoschis College submitted a petition to Collector M. Ravikumar here on Monday, stating that they had been divided in the name of caste in classrooms, and ill-treated by a group of students.

Seeking the intervention of the district administration to prevent clashes among students, they said provocative, caste-centric messages had been written on desks, doors and windows in many classrooms which could lead to clashes among the students.

A first-year student was attacked by a group of students on Saturday after he removed such writings from a desk. The issue was taken to the notice of Principal, but no action was taken against those who attacked the student.

A staff member instigated the group of students involved in the attack, they alleged.
