Agitated over the death of a student in an accident involving school bus, a mob barged into the premises of a private matriculation school at Pochampalli on Monday and destroyed property besides setting ablaze three vehicles, including two school buses.

S. Suresh, son of Sait, a tailor in Chinnakaradiyur village, was run over by the school bus while entering the school on his bicycle. When the news spread, nearly 500 people gathered in front of the school.

A section among them indulged in violence. The bus that ran over the child and a car of the school correspondent were set ablaze.

The mob damaged the windowpanes of all other vehicles.

Another gang barged into the office room, classrooms and laboratories and damaged furniture, computers and other learning materials. A few classrooms and documents such as certificates and mark sheets were also set on fire.

Armed police from Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts rushed in to quell the violence. The situation was brought under control after the police chased the miscreants away from the campus.

Salem Range DIG Venkataraman, SPs R. Sudhakar (Dharmapuri) and A.G. Babu (Krishnagiri) and other senior officials are camping at the site. No one has been arrested.
