Police have arrested a college student for allegedly murdering his abusive father.
Police said retired Village Administrative Officer Chinnasamy (64) of Pallakku Road in Kovilpatti used to pick-up quarrel with his wife Esther (47) everyday even for trivial reasons. Upset over this, Esther had left her husband and was living with her elder brother at Vilaathikulam.
When the couple’s son Deepak Samraj (21), a third year undergraduate student, asked his father to give money on Thursday evening, Chinnasamy verbally abused his son and refused to give the money. Around midnight, a quarrel broke out again and Deepak allegedly attacked his father with a club. When the man fell unconscious, Deepak smashed his head with a grinder. Chinnasamy died on the spot. Deepak sat with the body till dawn and then called his mother over the phone to tell her that he had murdered his father.
Only after she reached the spot, the neighbours came to know about the murder and informed the police. Kovilpattai West Police Station Inspector Raghuapthi Raja arrested Deepak.
