After Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar held a preparatory meeting and reviewed security arrangements with senior police officers, the district administration has unveiled 27 ‘dos and don’ts’ for the peaceful conduct of Thevar jayanthi at Pasumpon in the district on October 30.

Pointing out that prohibitory orders, imposed in the district last month ahead of the death anniversary of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran, was still in force, Collector S. Natarajan said like last year, all types of hired vehicles would be banned from carrying volunteers to the memorial.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, he said hired vehicles, two-wheelers and autorickshaws were banned and those who came in their own vehicles should obtain passes from the offices of Deputy Superintendents of Police concerned after furnishing details of the vehicles and the occupants.

The district administration would operate buses to enable the volunteers to visit the memorial, he said, adding people should avoid carrying flags, banners and portraits of community leaders, raising provocative slogans, playing loud speakers, carrying arms and liquor bottles and bursting crackers.

Travelling on top and footboard of vehicles was banned and cases would be booked against those violating police orders, he said.

People could carrying ‘jothis’ and take out milk pot and ‘mulaipari’ processions only within one km from Pasumpon village on October 29, that too after obtaining permission from the police, he said.

People could pay homage to the portraits of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar in their villages on October 30, but they should not play loudspeakers, the Collector said.

Volunteers from the district and other districts should travel only on permitted routes and leaders of registered political parties could come in a convoy of only three vehicles after obtaining permission. The leaders should pay homage at the memorial at the time allotted to them, he added.

The district administration had promulgated prohibitory order on September 8 for a period of two months and banned entry of hired vehicles transporting volunteers to take part in Thevar jayanthi from October 25 to 31.
