Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has reiterated the need for strengthening the Congress’s base for the party to return to power in Tamil Nadu.

“We have to build greater strength even at the block level and ensure that the party committees are constituted at the booth and village levels,” he said at a meeting of the party’s Tirupur rural district unit at Palladam, near here, on Sunday. In the two months in power, the BJP-led government had followed the same policies and schemes initiated by the UPA regime, though it came to power promising the voters a change, he said.
