Public Works Department officials told The Hindu that the current storage would be enough for two months, after which only the north-east monsoon could help in bringing copious water.
The August 9 water release will help in power generation of 100 MW through the Tunnel Power House and five barrages across the Cauvery, PWD officials said.
The current water level stood at 95.91 feet against its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 120 feet, with the storage at 59.668 tmc ft against the dam’s capacity of 93.470 tmcft.
The inflow was 10,953 cusecs while the outflow was at 6,000 cusecs at 8 a.m. on Friday.
About 149 tmc ft water was released from August 10, 2014 to February 5, 2015 for irrigation and drinking water.
Discharge was stopped on many occasions due to heavy rain in the delta regions.
