Stone laid for medical college

Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin laid the foundation stone for the government medical college to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 100 crore at M.Pudur near here on Sunday.

Earlier, he opened the Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram at Ramapuram, some distance away from M.Pudur, built at a cost of Rs 2.55 crore.

The medical college will come up on 25 acres in a total pack of 100 acres of land available with the tuberculosis sanatorium at M.Pudur.

Mr. Stalin said that to commemorate the 95-year-life span of E.V.Ramasamy, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, after coming to power in 2006, had decided to build 95 samathuvapurams.

Of these, 29 were opened during 2008-2009 and of the 30 samathupurams targeted for 2009-2010 so far 24 were completed.

Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam spoke. V.K.Subburaj, Principal Secretary, Health Department, P.Seetharaman, Collector, G.Aiyappan and Saba.Rajendran, MLAs, were present.
