The statues installed during the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime which the present government is planning to remove will be reinstalled at their original spots when the DMK returns to power, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi said on Saturday evening.
Addressing a public meeting marked to honour people who had lost their lives in the anti-Hindi agitation, Ms. Kanimozhi said it had become a practice for the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, headed by Jayalalithaa, to remove statues installed by the DMK government, including the Kannagi statue on the Marina.

Growth, jobsMs. Kanimozhi lashed out at the State government for not doing anything to promote industrial growth and to control the rising cost of essential commodities. “When we were in power, we created job opportunities for lakhs of students studying in polytechnic colleges by starting several industries,” Ms. Kanimozhi said, adding that no new industrial units were started in the past three years.
The present government was shutting all doors on educated youth, she said. Steps taken by the previous DMK government were neglected. “The Semmozhi Poonga (park) and Anna Library (in Kotturpuram) have been completely neglected,” she said.
