State-level games begin

Sivaganga Collector T. Munusamy declared open the State-level new games for school students by launching the swimming competition here on Tuesday.

More than 2,500 boys and girls from various educational districts were taking part in the three-day competition in Swimming, Carom, Judo and Slow Cycling events, conducted by the Department of School Education.

The competitions were organised in the under 19, under 17 and under 15 categories for boys and girls and the winners would be honoured with medals, cups and certificates, S. Poovendan, District Inspector of Physical Education said.

The participants, including more than 1,200 girls have qualified for the State-level Bharathiyar Day and Republic Day competitions after clearing the zonal, educational district and divisional levels, he said.
