State ranks galore in Virudhunagar district

It rained state ranks in Virudhunagar district with two students each bagging the top two spots in the 10th standard public exam for which results were declared on Friday.  

26 students stood third in the State. All the 30 State-rank holders doubled up as district rank holders.  

Sharon Karishma of Dr. Radhakrishnan Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher secondary school in Sattur and R. Sri Rathinamani of Kshatriya Girls Higher Secondary School shared the State first rank with identical 499 marks out of 500.

K. Priyadarshini of Sri Ramana Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam and V. Sahana of Kshatriya Girls Higher Secondary school secured the State second rank with 498 marks.   

The district also secured its best pass percentage ever of 96.55 percentage.  In the process of bettering the overall pass percentage by 1.62 percentage over that of last year, the district stood four in over all percentage by climbing one notch upwards from last year.

"We missed the third rank by 0.03 percentage.  Had 10 more students passed in the exam, we could have secured the third rank," Virudhunagar Chief Educational Officer, V. Jayakumar, said.

Girls take honours

Out of the 30,179 students who appeared for the exam in the district, 29,139 students passed out.  While 98.29 per cent of girls came out successfully, 94.86 per cent of boys passed out.  

The girl students of the district walked away with the top four ranks.  Besides, out of the 26 third ranks, only seven went to the boys.  

Out of the 326 schools, 164 schools recorded centum results.  Following is the number of centums secured by the students in individual subjects. Science (2,923), Social Science (1,566), Mathematics (532) and English (54).
