Tamil Nadu occupies a pivotal position in delivering healthcare services in the country. This could be possible because of the enhanced facilities provided in the government hospitals and the Primary Health Centres, according to Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam.
He was speaking at a function organised at Thittakudi near here to open additional buildings at the government hospital at a cost of Rs.97.10 lakh on Thursday.
The State was witnessing a medical revolution in terms of health indicators.
In the past four years, three lakh child deliveries took place at the 1,500 PHCs across the State and marriage assistance to the tune of Rs.1,400 crore was given away to over two lakh families.
The Minister said that new civil structures were put up in the taluk government hospitals at a cost of Rs.600 crore in the past four years and as many as 6,527 doctors and 25,000 nurses appointed.
Mr. Panneerselvam said that a high-level bridge was being constructed at Thittakudi at an estimated cost of Rs.3 crore. The desilting work, taken up at a cost of Rs.25 crore, was going on at the Wellington lake. Under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, 26,119 huts would be converted into concrete houses and 4,336 more dwelling units would be put up under the Indira Awaz Yojana this year.
Later, the Minister inaugurated the improved facilities set up at a cost of Rs.62 lakh at the Pennadam PHC and another PHC built at a cost of Rs.29.17 lakh in Ganapathikurichi.
