DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly M.K. Stalin on Sunday alleged that the ruling AIADMK has failed to fulfil its electoral promises.

Addressing a public meeting arranged to welcome the leaders of the Makkal DMDK including former MLAs V.C. Chandrakumar, S.R. Parthiban and C.H. Sekar, along with hundreds of cadre into the DMK’s fold, Mr. Stalin said that the government did not sign any MoUs or interacted with industrialists since retaining power two months ago.

“In the past five years, all the announcements made under Rule 110 of the Legislative Assembly Rules, promises made in budget, Governor’s speech and in the election manifesto were not fulfilled nor any steps taken to implement it,” he claimed.

Though the first file the Chief Minister had signed was to introduce phased prohibition, he questioned why liquor outlets near schools, places of worships and congested areas were not closed in the first phase.

Taking a dig at the People’s Welfare Front, which he described as the AIADMK’s ‘B Team’, Mr Stalin said while the team was now reduced to ‘zero’ the DMK was the ‘hero’.

He said that the DMK was the only party that ruled the State with maximum number of 184 MLAs in 1971 and was the only opposition with maximum of 89 MLAs now.

Earlier, Mr. Chandrakumar said that their request to join hands with DMK and fight the assembly election was not accepted by DMDK leader Vijayakant leading the latter to lose deposit.

He said that he has every right to invite functionaries from DMDK to join DMK.Law and order deteriorating

Earlier, speaking to reporters, Mr. Stalin alleged that the number of murders and other incidents of crime have increased in Tamil Nadu after the elections and the law and order was deteriorating.

He alleged that there is a sharp increase in the incidents of crimes.

He claimed that as a result of these people were feeling insecure and more cadres were enrolling with the DMK.

Council meet

Asked about Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam’s address at the Inter-State Council meeting in New Delhi in which he said that the law and order situation was under control, the DMK leader questioned the Minister’s claim when the media was continuously reporting about one murder of the other in Tamil Nadu daily.

Mr. Stalin said the DMK would take up with the Human Rights Commission, the botched up cataract surgery performed for 23 patients at Mettur Government Hospital in which they lost their vision.
