About 250 members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) observed a day’s fast here on Wednesday, pressing a 22 point charter of demands, including reinstatement of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal, filling up of vacancies and rectifying anomalies in the sixth pay commission.
Addressing the agitators, M.Karunanidhi and S.Ganesamoorthy, district President and Secretary of the TNGEA respectively said the Supreme court has taken serious note on the reinstatement and sacking of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal whenever there was change of government in the state and urged the AIADMK government to reinstate them without any further delay.
They demanded that the state government fill up the 2.67 lakh vacancies in various departments (1.87 lakh vacancies according to the government) through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and Employment Offices.
The government should rectify the anomalies in the sixth pay commission and bring all the Anganwadi and Noon meal workers, Village assistants, Librarians and Panchayat secretaries under the time scale pay.
The fast was observed by the district unit of the TNGEA as part of the state-wide fast, pressing the demands.
VirudhunagarThe Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) has urged the State government to set up a pay commission immediately to revise their wages with effect from January 1, 2011.
Its members including women observed a hunger strike under the leadership of the president of the district unit, J. Lakshmi Narayanan, near the Collectorate here on Wednesday.
The State secretary, N. Kumaravel, delivered the inaugural address while district secretary M. Subramanian explained the demands.
They sought salary on a par with Central Government employees. House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, Educational Allowance and other allowances being given to the Central government employees should be extended to the State government employees also, they said.
However, their immediate demand was the merger of 50 per cent of Dearness Allowance with Basic Pay and steps to fill all vacant posts with time scale of pay. They pointed out that the one-man commission appointed to set right anomaly in pay scales had accepted that those retiring before the date of annual increment should be given an increment but it was yet to be implemented.
Three per cent of pay hike being given to selection grade and special grade employees should be extended to senior grade workers also, they demanded.
