Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin has said that if elected to power, the DMK would take steps to link rivers in the State to improve water resources for irrigation and drinking purposes.

On the second day of his 12-day ‘Namakku Naame’ campaign on Monday, Mr. Stalin conversed with the self-help group members, hawkers, roadside vendors and shop keepers in Kanyakumari, after paying homage at the Tiruvalluvar statue.

He promised the SHG members that if the DMK government came back to power, it would implement total prohibition.

He accused the officials of failing to save the life of anti-liquor crusader S.K. Sasi Perumal during the agitation against a Tasmac shop in Unnamalaikkadai in the district and termed his death a murder. He was given a warm welcome at different towns on his way to Nagercoil where he met people from different walks of life.

Addressing coconut farmers at Rajakkamangalam, Mr. Stalin said efforts would be taken to increase the procurement price of coconut and copra, to bail out rubber farmers facing tumbling prices and also coir manufacturers. Stating that the foundation stone was laid by him eight years ago for the Colachel Fishing Port, he said it was yet to be completed.
