DMK cadre confident of win with existing allies: Stalin

DMK members aspiring to contest the Lok Sabha elections are confident that the party will win comfortably in all the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with its current allies, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin said here on Wednesday.

Speaking at a wedding of a cadre’s relative in Dharmapuri and at a meeting in Krishnagiri, where he launched the party district unit’s website, Mr. Stalin criticised the media for speculating on alliance.

“The aspirants wanted the party to close the issue of alliance,” he said. They were confident of winning all the seats with the existing allies after witnessing the support for the DMK at its State conference held in Tiruchi on February 15 and 16.

The party high command was also discussing the matter with frontline leaders of the party.

On the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam announcing its nominees for all the 39 seats in the State and the lone seat in Puducherry, Mr. Stalin said party general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had taken the decision even before the election notification was issued only with the aim to avoid personal appearance in the disproportionate assets case in a Special Court in Bangalore. Mr. Stalin challenged the AIADMK government to prove that the drinking water from Hogenakkal had reached the rural habitations it was meant for. The government should take a delegation of the Minister concerned, Opposition MLAs (including Mr. Stalin) and officials to the areas supposed to be covered by the water scheme and prove that the implementation was total. “I will salute them if they did so,” he said.

Water contaminated with fluoride was still being consumed in many areas. When questions regarding this matter were raised, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Prisons, Law and Justice K.P. Munusamy and Ms. Jayalalithaa gave misleading replies, he said.

On the murder of the woman techie in Chennai, he said it was a pointer to the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

Website launched

After Mr. Stalin inaugurated the website of the district unit in Krishnagiri, 4,806 persons from the Congress, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi, DMDK, ADMK, CPI, UCPI, RJD and All India Muslim League joined the party.
