Stalin, Ramadoss condemn CB-CID chief’s transfer

See an attempt to protect the guilty; insist on CBI probe

DMK working president M.K. Stalin and PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss on Thursday alleged that the transfer of Additional DGP Jayanth Murali from the CB-CID was an attempt to save those who were involved in luring girl students of a private college in Aruppukottai.

“The Additional DGP was an honest officer and the government is afraid that the truth in the case will come out if he is allowed to continue. That is why he was transferred two days after the case was transferred to the CB-CID,” Mr. Stalin said.

The inquiry commission appointed by the Governor would not ensure justice for the victims, he added. “Nirmala Devi’s [the assistant professor of the college who has been arrested on charges of attempted trafficking] telephonic conversation with the students had shamed Tamil Nadu. A CBI inquiry under the guidance of High Court is the best way to bring out the truth,” he told reporters at his Kolathur Constituency.

Accusing Governor Banwarilal Purohit of working against the State autonomy, he said the DMK would not rest till he was recalled by the Centre.

He also felt that BJP leader H. Raja’s tweet about DMK MP Kanimozhi, the episode involving the assistant professor and the actions of Tamil Nadu government were all parts of efforts to divert people’s attention from the Centre’s failure to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

In a statement, PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss questioned why Mr. Murali was removed barely 24 hours after the Aruppukottai sex scandal was transferred to the agency.

‘An attempt to bury truth’

Terming the move shocking, he said the State government’s attempt to bury the truth was condemnable.

He further said that Mr. Murali was an honest police officer, who was capable of thwarting any attempt by the higher officials to influence the case.

“In short, he has been removed to bury the case. CB-CID’s new chief Amresh Pujari’s past is controversial. He was removed from the post of intelligence chief in 2015 after some allegations were levelled against him. He has been chosen to finish this case,” said Dr. Ramadoss.

He further said that CB-CID investigation will not help resolve this case and punish those involved. “Only a CBI enquiry can reveal and punish all those influential administrators of the university. The State government should transfer the case to the CBI,” he added.
