‘AIADMK factions multiplying by the day’

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday expressed doubts if the AIADMK (Amma) government, which was yet again facing dissent within its ranks, would survive even till the next Assembly session which has been convened on June 14.

“I would like to know how many factions are there in the AIADMK. The party had split into two after Jayalalithaa’s death. Now it has become three factions (with some MLAs expressing support to T.T.V. Dhinakaran). At this rate, a question arises as to how many more such factions would be formed.

“It leads to a doubt if the government would last till the next Assembly session is convened,” Mr. Stalin told journalists here.

Nonetheless, the DMK will perform its democratic role as an opposition, he added.

Mr. Stalin said he found nothing unusual in Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s photographs being displayed in government offices from Tuesday.

‘Knee-jerk reaction’

Mr. Stalin, who inspected the Sembampalayam tank, chided the government for putting on the backburner projects initiated by the DMK for reviving water bodies and interlinking rivers.

He termed Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami's recent participation in the function at Mettur dam as a “knee-jerk” reaction to the works initiated earlier by the DMK for remediation of water bodies.
