On the second day of his political campaign in the district, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin was greeted by a huge gathering, particularly women.

Mr. Stalin’s campaign began at a tile manufacturing unit in Panagudi near Valliyoor in the district at 8.25 a.m. where good number of women had gathered. The tile manufacturers narrated the ordeals they were facing during the past four years in getting permit for taking clay, the raw material involved.

“Instead of remitting the prescribed amount to the Department of Mines for getting the permit, we’ve to give huge sum of money every time to a particular individual of Pudukottai, who in turn gives instructions to the officials of the Department of Mines to issue permits for taking clay. This kind of second sale of clay has hit more than 23 tile units and 101 brick manufacturing units in the district during the past four years,” said Victor, secretary of the Tile Manufacturers Association.

On his way to Kalakkad, Mr. Stalin, on seeing a long queue in front of a ration shop at Ervadi, got down from his campaign vehicle to interact with the cardholders waiting to buy essential commodities.

The DMK treasurer interacted with a group of farmers at Uduppi Hotel near Cheranmahadevi bus stand. Braving intense heat, Mr. Stalin spent more than fifteen minutes inside the eatery, and left the spot waving to the crowd from his campaign vehicle.

On his way from Kalakkad to Cheranmahadevi, he saw the abandoned Tamirabharani – Karumaeniyar – Nambiyar river-linking project even as former Radhapuram MLA M. Appavu explained to him the salient features and present status of the scheme.
