Refuting reports that he was in the race for the post of general secretary of the DMK, now held by K. Anbazhagan, party treasurer M.K. Stalin on Sunday said he was re-contesting only for the post he holds at present.

He also denied reports that he had resigned as treasurer as the party leadership had refused to give its nod for his desire to take the second most powerful post in the DMK.

“This is nothing but a canard propagated by vested interests to create confusion in the DMK. I condemn and deny the reports,” he told reporters at his residence in Teynampet. The election to the post of president, general secretary, treasurer and four-member audit committee will be held on January 9, when the general council of the party meets in Chennai, to complete the party election process. As scores of partymen thronged his residence , Mr Stalin called upon them not to fall prey to such “canards.”
