Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has said the 21 lakh concrete houses to be constructed under ‘Kalaignar Housing Scheme' for the benefit of the poor living in the huts would be built within the stipulated period of six years in superior quality.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the construction of houses under the scheme at East Alangulam near Kalakkad in the district on Saturday, Mr. Stalin said the State Government, which was actively engaged in constructing three lakh houses across the State under this programme against the target of 21 lakh houses in the next six years, had disbursed identity cards to the identified beneficiaries even as the constructed houses were being handed over to the donees.
In Tirunelveli district, 9,062 houses would be constructed in the next six years , of which 2,345 units were built during this fiscal. Of this, 910 houses had already been completed and the remaining would be completed by January-end.
Accompanied by District Collector M. Jayaraman, the Deputy Chief Minister went around the houses and checked the quality of construction.
