DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday condemned a lathi charge by the police on students in Vellore, who were protesting against the bus fare hike.

Mr. Stalin tweeted, “I condemn the lathi charge on students protesting in Vellore against the bus fare hike. The government should give up its attack on the students and instead withdraw the bus fare hike. The ‘horse trading’ government should also withdraw all the cases filed against students.”

Road roko

The police resorted to the lathi charge after a large number of students staged a road roko and blocked traffic for nearly a couple of hours. The leader of the opposition has been leading the charge against the AIADMK government in seeking a roll back of the bus fare hike. Independently, many protests by students have broken out across the State condemning the fare hike and seeking a roll back.
