Even as the monsoon has left its footprint in the town in the form of battered roads, residents of Kadampadi Solomon Thottam in front of the Collectorate on Nagapattinam – Nagore National Highway - 67 fear the outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases in their locality owing to stagnation of rain water. Roads in most of the areas in Nagapattinam and Nagore are in a pathetic condition and vehicle users have to brave the bumpy roads. “Chances of outbreak of diseases are high due to the stagnant water in a trough spread over 5,000 square feet at Solomon Thottam. The municipality should clear the water on war-footing,” said K.Balasubramaniyan, a resident of the area. Plastic waste and garbage is dumped in the stagnant water.

The civic body must create awareness on proper disposal of waste, said another resident, Sekar.

When contacted, Municipality officials said steps would be taken to clear the stagnant water at Solomon Thottam. Moreover street to street anti-mosquito fogging operation had been carried out to prevent the mosquito menace in the town, they said.
