Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Cauvery Maha Pushkaram that begins on Tuesday.

It will be celebrated for 12 days from September 12 to September 23.

It is estimated that at least 20,000 devotees across the country, mainly from Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, are expected to visit Srirangam daily.

The organisers have lined up various programmes, including homams, special pujas and cultural events.

Though the festival is being viewed as private, the district administration conducted a review meeting a few days ago to discuss the steps to be taken for providing amenities to the devotees.

A senior official said that Tiruchirapalli City Corporation, Public Health, police, Public Works Department, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments and Tourism departments have been asked to provide necessary facilities to the devotees.

As of now there was no chance for opening Mettur dam for the festival.

If the dam level shot up to 90 feet, there might be chances for water flow in Cauvery particularly during the last leg of the 12 day-festival.

Water would be made available to the devotees at Amma Mandapam bathing ghat during the event, sources added.
