Five Sri Lankan fishermen along with their boat have been apprehended for fishing in Indian waters and 300 kg of tuna fish seized from them by the Indian Coast Guard off Chennai.

ICG ship Rajdhwaj and its fixed wing aircraft during routine patrol apprehended the Sri Lankan fishing boat Sanoj with five crew about 52 nautical miles North East of Chennai on September 4, an ICG release said.

“The boat had 300 kg of tuna fish illegally caught from the Indian exclusive economic zone,” it said, adding that the crew members and the boat had been handed over to the Chennai Harbour Police.

In 2014, the Coast Guard has apprehended 30 Sri Lankan fishing boats and 154 crew, it said.
