Sri Lankan fisherman deported

A 30-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil fisherman was deported by Immigration officials on Sunday morning after his name was appeared in the ‘Look Out Circular'.

The officials said the fisherman, Zion, strayed into the Indian waters in 2007. He was arrested and lodged in a refugee camp in Chengalpattu. He was deported to Sri Lanka after sometime. Again, in 2008, he had come to Chennai and was sent to a refugee camp in Bhavani Sagar, Coimbatore.

In April last year, he was deported by the State 'Q' Branch police. They identified his passport and informed the Immigration authorities to issue a LOC against the passport. When he landed this morning, the officials deported him to Sri Lanka by an afternoon flight, they added.
