Sri Lanka court extends remand of 24 TN fishermen

The fishermen of Rameswaram, Pudukottai and Nagapattinam were arrested by the Lankan Navy on different dates when they were fishing in mid-sea.

A Sri Lankan court on Friday extended till December 5 the judicial remand of 24 Tamil Nadu fishermen, a senior functionary of a local fishermen association said.

The fishermen of Rameswaram, Pudukottai and Nagapattinam were arrested by the Lankan Navy on different dates when they were fishing in mid-sea, S Emiret, Rameswaram fishermen organisation president said.

They were produced in the Oorkavalthurai court and the court magistrate extended their remand, he said, adding, the fishermen were lodged in Jaffna prison.
