A spotted deer was found dead at Chinna Goundanur Pirivu near Aravakuruchi on Sunday.

On information, forest officials visited the spot and conducted enquiries with local people and subsequently it was taken to a veterinary hospital for post mortem.

It was said the male deer was three years old and strayed into the area from Udumalaipet forest area in search of water.

It might have died due to abnormal heart beat when it attempted to jump a fence in order to escape from stray dogs.

The deer was buried at Idayakottai.
