Sports meet for salt workers held

Salt workers and their relatives participated in a sports meet organised by the Salt Department here on Thursday. The meet was declared open by M.S. Prakash, president, Salt Manufacturers and Merchants Association, in the presence of R. Kasthuri, Salt Superintendent, Tuticorin Division and M.R. Ramachandran, Joint Secretary of the association. On the premises of Oorani salt factory here, participants competed in 100 m, 200 m athletic events, javelin throw, short put, disc throw, throw ball and tug of war. Other events such as slow cycling, musical chair, balloon bursting, water filling and lemon and spoon game were also organised for children of salt pan workers, sources said. At the valedictory function, K. Xavier Jothi Sargunam, District Sports Officer, gave away prizes.
