The special train services between Coimbatore and Mettuppalayam has been extended for one more month from September 1, a release from Salem Division of Southern Railway here has said.
The special train was introduced in June and its service was extended twice in July and August.
The special trains from Coimbatore would depart at 9.30 a.m., 12 noon and 3 p.m. and reach Mettuppalayam at 10.20 a.m., 12.50 p.m. and 3.50 p.m.
The train would have stoppages at Coimbatore North, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai and would be run on all days except Sundays. In the return direction, the train would depart Mettuppalayam at 10.40 a.m., 1.10 p.m. and 4.20 p.m. and reach Coimbatore at 11.30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5.10 p.m.
There is a demand from Mettuppalayam residents to make it a permanent service and run it on on Sundays too. Another demand is addition of three or four more coaches during peak hours and provide stoppages at Thudialur, Urumandamapalayam and Pudupalayam.
