The state government has deputed seven technical officials from the Geology and Mines department to assess the illicit and illegal mining of granites over and above the permitted level in all the four taluks (except Uthangarai).
Officials team from Chennai were deployed for field duty in Krishnagiri district on Thursday. In a release issued here, an official said that complaints of quarrying over and above the permitted level and transport of huge granite blocks without valid permit were received.
With a view to verify the illegal mining accurately, the district administration requested the state government to deputy technical officials to assess the actual loss to the government exchequer.
The technical team comprising seven officials were deputed by the Commissioner of Geology and Mining, Chennai.The officials landed in Krishnagiri with Total Survey Station equipment to carry out the given task.
Three teams were formed to assess illegal granite mining in all the five taluks. One team to be headed by Mr. L. Selvam, Assistant Director and Mr. S. Sridharan, Assistant Geologist will assess Krishnagiri taluk.
The second team headed by Mr. J. Sahayaseelan, Assistant Director and G.t. Annadurai, Assistant Geologist will assess in Pochampalli taluk and the third team headed by Mr. S. Sudharshanam, Assistant Director and Mr. G. Panneerselvam, Assistant Geologist will assess illegal mining in Denkanikottai and Hosur Taluks. Tatally 155 quarries would be assessed by the special team.
The special team will submit its inspection report to the government. Based on the report, impartial action would be initiated against the violators, the release adds.
