Ramzan special prayers were organised at 30 places in the district on behalf of Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath (TNTJ) on Wednesday.
TNTJ’s aministrative committee chairman M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani led the special prayers organised at Tirunelveli Corporation’s Idgah Grounds at Melapalayam in which a few thousand Muslims including a large number of women and children participated.
He urged the Muslims to shun usury, narcotic substances including alcohol, dowry system and religious extremism. “As Islam preaches love and affection, be compassionate. Love your enemies also and show your solidarity with them,” he said. He asked them to be cautious about those who spread religious hatred and isolate such anti-social elements. Since Shawwal (the 10th month of Islamic calendar) crescent was sighted as per Islam at five places in Kanyakumari district including Thengampudhur, we decided to celebrate Ramzan on July 6,” he said.
Earlier, TNTJ cadres distributed mutton, rice, ghee and vegetables to over 3,000 poor families of Melapalayam to celebrate Ramzan. “Since the TNTJ organises the Ramzan special prayers at 30 places across the district, we have distributed meat and other provisions required for Ramzan celebrations to poor families.”
In the special prayers organised at India Cements grounds in Thaazhaiyooththu, Moulvi Shabwan led the prayers. Over 6,000 Muslims participated in the prayers organised at Quaid-E-Millet grounds in Kadayanallur, which was led by Mohamed Thaha.
On behalf of TNTJ, special prayers were organised at 28 more places including Pettai, Tirunelveli Town, Tirunelveli Junction, Pattamadai, Ambasamudram, Cheranmahadevi, Kallidaikurichi, Kadayanallur and Pallakkal Pothukkudi.
In Kanyakumari district, the TNTJ organised special prayers at Kottar, Boothapaandi, Puthukkadai, Kanniyakumari, Manthaarampudhur, Panjalingapuram, Colachel, Kaliyakavilai, Thuckalay and Thiruvithaancode.
Thoothukudi
Ramzan was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm in the district on Wednesday.
Many Muslims affiliated to TNTJ offered prayers at various places in Thoothukudi. Scores of TNTJ followers thronged Kuttiya Palli Mosque in Kayalpatnam and offered prayers. A huge congregation of Muslims was seen at Kayalpatnam beach as men and women offered prayers. It was led by Al-Jamiul Azhar Juma Masjid.
Some Muslims were planning to celebrate Ramzan on Thursday. Mosques were illuminated. Important places including the town and bazaar were bustling with activities. Holiday was declared on Wednesday for all schools. Later, it was cancelled and students were instructed to attend classes on Wednesday. However, the government has declared Thursday as holiday.
