Special prayers mark Bakrid in southern districts

Meat of sacrificed animals, rice, clothes and money distributed to the poor

Thousands of Muslims offered special prayers here on Thursday on the occasion of Bakrid and distributed meat, rice, clothes and money to the needy.

In the special prayers held at Idgah Grounds in Melapalayam, chairman of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath’s high-level committee M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani said that Islam that preached brotherhood, love and affection among humanities never supported terrorism and religious extremism.

Following the special prayers, several bulls and sheep were sacrificed at Masjid-Ur-Rahman and the meat was distributed to the needy.

The TNTJ also organised Bakrid prayers at India Cements Grounds in Thazhaiyoothu and Quaid-E-Millet Grounds in Kadayanallur.

On behalf of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the party’s political committee member K.M.A. Nizam distributed the meat of sacrificed sheep, rice, ghee, money and clothes to the poor.

The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam organised special prayers at Melapalayam Bazaar Grounds.

Bakrid special prayers were also conducted at Pettai, Pottalpudur, Tenkasi, Pattamadai, Sankarankoil, Ervadi, Ambasamudram, Puliyangudi and other areas.

Tuticorin

A large number of Muslims thronged at Idgah Grounds on the premises of Crescent School in Tuticorin and offered special prayers.

Muslims from 18 mosques congregated at the ground. Imam Sheik Udhuman conducted the prayer, which was led by M. Shahul Hameed, Jamaath president, Jamia Mosque.

After offering prayers, the participants embraced one another and exchanged greetings. A large number of sheep, goats and oxen were slaughtered and the meat was distributed to neighbours, relatives and the poor. Alms were extended to the poor thronging at public places and mosques.

Kayalpatnam wore a festive look. There was a mass congregation of Muslims on Kayalpatnam beach, where they offered prayers. Imam Abdul Majeeth Mahalari, Katheeb of Al –Jamiul-Azhar of Jumma Masjid, conducted the prayers at 7.30 p.m.

Nagercoil

Hundreds of Muslims turned up at Idgahs and mosques across Kanyakumari district to offer prayers.

They embraced one another, greeting them after the prayers.

Charity activities such as distribution of meat, food and clothes to the poor were organised, symbolising compassion and brotherhood during the festival.

Elected representatives, officials and citizens extended greetings to Muslims and some of them visited the places of worship.

The Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath organised special prayers at Panchalingapuram, Mantharampudur, Thengampudur, Kottar, Tittuvilai, Madhavalayam, Tiruvathancode, Panavilai, Kadayalamoodu, Thengaipattinam, Colachel, Vadaseri Kuthba Mosque, Cultural Mosque near Manimedai, and Edgah Maidan in Kottar.
