The government may hold a special Assembly session to discuss and pass a resolution on the Cauvery water dispute and also to urge the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board as per the demands of the Opposition parties.
However, multiple sources in the Assembly Secretariat said no request for a special session was received from the State government as of Tuesday evening.
“The State government may not be averse to the idea as Cauvery is a major issue and the State government would not want an issue cropping up in the beginning of the long budget session,” sources said. Whether the session would be held after the business for the day ends or in the morning would be discussed and decided in the Business Advisory Committee meeting to be held on March 15. Meanwhile, Congress Whip S. Vijayadharani has requested the Speaker to have the special session either on March 15 or on March 19.
DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin had already urged the government to convene a special urging the Centre to set up the CMB.
