The School Education Department has brought out special guides meant to be distributed to slow learners among students of class 10 and 12 in the district.
The guides were released by Minister for Housing and Urban Development R. Vaithilingam at a function held at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in the town on Saturday.
The Minister said the guides were meant to help slow learners secure pass mark. The guides would be distributed to sow learners identified through the term tests held recently. All SSLC and Plus Two students of government and government-aided schools, who have secured less than 40 per cent marks, would be given the guides. The guides for three of the Plus Two subjects have been brought out by the Annai Theresa Foundation, he said
The guides would be given to 6,000 SSLC students in 155 high schools and 5,000 Plus Two students in 122 higher secondary schools. All efforts were made to ensure cent per cent pass in the district, he said.
Urging students of the district to work hard to get good marks and make a mark at the State level, Mr. Vaithilingam said that students who secure 90 per cent and above in the quarterly exams in the districts would be provided special coaching by teachers so that they could get State ranks. The coaching would be conducted by expert teachers who have produced State rank-holders in the past.
The Minister distributed the guides to students of 23 schools on the occasion.
District Collector N. Subbaiyan, K.Parasuraman, MP, M. Rangasamy, M. Rathinasamy, and R. Duraikannu, MLAs, and V. Tamilarasu, Chief Educational Officer, spoke.
The Minister distributed specially-designed two-wheelers estimated at Rs. 13 lakh to 24 differently abled persons at a function held at the Collector’s office.
The Minister said that 26,918 differently abled persons had been extended various assistance estimated at Rs. 20.25 crore in the district since 2011.
