Along with a group of railway employees posted at the pit-line here, their children affiliated to Jawahar Scout Group cleaned the Tirunelveli-Jammu Tawi Express Train here as the three-day ‘coach cleaning drive’ commenced here on Friday.

The purpose of this drive is to create awareness among the public, especially among the commuters, to help Indian Railway keep the coaches clean.

As most of the coaches have become potential breeding ground for cockroaches and rats due to eatables and snacks left behind and dirty toilets, coaches of Tirunelveli - Jammu Tawi Express train were cleaned to stress the need for keeping coaches clean.

Those who participated in the exercise distributed pamphlets urging the passengers to keep the stations and the trains clean and tidy.

“The pamphlet distribution will continue on Saturday and Sunday,” said M. Velrajan, group leader of Jawahar Scout Group.

Station Manager Chelladurai and engineer T. Raja were present.
