A special court here on Saturday issued summons to I. Periyasamy, former Housing Minister, and M.S. Jaffar Sait, the suspended Additional Director General of Police for appearance in connection with a case relating to certain irregularities in acquiring residential plots from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB).

The Directorate Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) cited the suspended police officer as accused number one in the case.

On July 23, 2011, the case was registered against Mr. Sait, who was ADGP (Intelligence) during the previous regime of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and others.

The charge against Mr. Sait was that he had entered into a criminal conspiracy with other persons and got allotment of a TNHB plot in Tiruvanmiyur here.

He allegedly suppressed certain information to get the allotment and later entered into an agreement with a private construction company for the development of the site. After the completion of investigation, an investigation officer filed the charge sheet before Special Court for DVAC cases last week.

Among those who were accused in the case were Mr. Periyasamy, M. Parvin, the wife of the suspended officer, K. Rajamanickam, who was secretary to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and his son R. Durga Shankar.

They were charged under Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of IPC and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Twenty six persons were cited as witnesses.

Taking the charge sheet on file, B. Vijayalakshmi, Judge of the Special Court ordered the issuance of summons to the accused for their appearance before the court. The matter was posted to October 28 for further hearing.
