A special camp for opening of accounts under the small savings scheme, “Sukanya Samriddhi Account”, for the welfare of girl child will be held from March 4 to 10 at the Head Post Office.
Accounts can be opened in the name of girl children up to the age of 10 years through natural or legal guardian. The minimum amount for opening of account is Rs. 1,000, while subsequent deposits should be in multiple of Rs. 100. The maximum amount that can be deposited in a financial year is Rs. 1,50,000. The rate of interest for 2014-15 is 9.1 per cent, the release said.
The scheme permits partial withdrawal up to maximum 50 per cent when the account holder attains age of 18 for higher education and marriage. The account can be closed after completion of 21 years from the date of opening.
