June 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:56 pm IST - Tiruvannamalai:

As the practice of ‘pournami girivalam’ is picking up in Parvathamalai near here, special buses were operated for Then Mahadevamangalam, the starting point of the girivalam, for the first time.

The Parvathamalai is a hill that houses Sri Mallikarjuneswarar Temple at its peak.

Challenge to trekkers

Due to its difficult terrain the hill poses challenge to trekkers. It is not popular also becaus of its lack of accessibility from the big towns around.

Meanwhile people have begun to go around on foot as in Tiruvannamalai. Some of the places along the path include Kadaladi, Adamangalam Pudur, Kanthapalayam and Pattiyanthal.

In order to facilitate the public, the government decided to operate special busses on Pournami, the full moon day, to this hill.

Special buses that carried out shuttle trips from towns like Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Chengam, Polur and Arani up to Then Mahadevamangalam were flagged off by HR & CE minister Sevur S.Ramachandran from Thenmahadevamanagalam, on Sunday.
